STRENGTHENING GUN SAFETY

Every Rhode Islander deserves to feel safe in their home, in their school – in every city and town.

Addressing the gun violence epidemic in our country required strong collaboration and urgent leadership, and Governor Dan McKee acted quickly when it was needed most.

After renewing his call for the General Assembly to act on gun safety legislation following the tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Governor McKee worked alongside lawmakers and advocates–drawing praise from Moms Demand Action–for the state’s quick and meaningful action to reduce gun violence. The legislation signed by the Governor bans high-capacity magazines, restricts who can legally purchase a firearm, and bans the open carry of certain types of guns in public.

Rhode Islanders’ safety cannot wait - that’s why Governor McKee showed leadership when it mattered most. But the work is not done. He will continue his strong relationship with lawmakers and advocates to pass an assault weapons ban and keep weapons of war off of our streets.
